Ridiyagama Safari Park

Sri Lanka’s Premier Exotic Safari Experience

Welcome to Ridiyagama Safari Park
Ridiyagama Safari Park provides visitors with a unique safari-style wildlife adventure in one of Sri Lanka’s largest zoological landscapes. Developed to create an experience similar to international safari parks, the facility allows animals to live in large open ranges while giving visitors the opportunity to observe wildlife in expansive natural surroundings.

The safari park features specially designed zones for carnivores, herbivores, and other exotic species, creating an immersive experience that closely resembles natural ecosystems. Visitors can travel through the park on guided safari tours while observing animals such as lions, tigers, elephants, zebras, and deer roaming within spacious habitats. In addition to recreation, the park also supports conservation efforts, animal welfare, and environmental education initiatives.

Today, Ridiyagama Safari Park has become one of Sri Lanka’s most exciting wildlife destinations, offering visitors a memorable combination of adventure, learning, and appreciation for the beauty and diversity of the animal kingdom.

A Haven for Wildlife Observation and Conservation Awareness

The Ridiyagama Safari Park, affiliated to the Department of National Zoological Gardens, is located within the Ambalantota Divisional Secretary’s Division. Spanning approximately 500 acres, the park was officially opened to the public on 18th March 2016. It has rapidly emerged as a key wildlife attraction in the southern region of Sri Lanka and is expected to develop into one of the country’s leading eco-tourism destinations in the near future.
Designed with a strong emphasis on animal welfare, the safari park provides animals with spacious, open-range habitats that closely resemble their natural environments. This unique setting allows visitors to observe a wide range of species in conditions that encourage natural behaviours, making Ridiyagama Safari Park an ideal destination for wildlife observation, education, and conservation awareness.

A Unique Sanctuary for the Endangered Hog Deer

The Hog Deer (Axis porcinus) Conservation Center at Ridiyagama Safari Park represents a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s wildlife conservation efforts. This rare deer species is found only in limited areas of the Southern Province and is considered the rarest member of the deer family in the country.
As a strictly protected mammal, the Hog Deer is also listed on the IUCN Red List as being at severe risk of extinction, highlighting the urgent need for focused conservation action. The Ridiyagama Safari Park is currently the only place in Sri Lanka where visitors can observe a large herd of Hog Deer in a single protected, naturalistic environment, promoting both conservation awareness and eco-tourism.
