Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following vacant positions in the Department of National Zoological Gardens.

01. For the posts of Security Guard (Male) / Garden Assistant / Storeman / Vehicle Assistant / Field Assistant (PL- 01) (Grade III)

Required Qualifications – Educational Qualifications Having passed six (06) subjects at the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination, with at least two (02) credit passes, in not more than two attempts.

and

Professional qualifications –

Through a structured interview (Professional experience gained in the relevant field will be considered as an additional qualification at the structured interview.

Age – Should not be less than 18 years and should not be more than 45 years.

Other – (i) Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka. (ii) Must possess an excellent character.

(iii) Every applicant should have adequate physical fitness and mental soundness to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.

Salary – Salary Scale – Monthly Salary Scale applicable to Grades III, II and I – Rs. 40,000 -10×450 -10x 490 -10×540 -12×590 – Rs. 61,880/- (Salaries will be paid in accordance with Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025 from 01.01.2027. Until then, the prescribed salary shall be calculated in accordance with Schedule III of this Circular.)

Method of recruitment – Through a structured test

02. i. For the posts of Laboratory Assistant / Tractor Operator / Machine Operator (Backhoe) / Animal Keeper / Livestock Collector / Fish Keeper / Mechanic / Carpenter / Mason / Painter / Chainsaw Operator / Plumber / Cook (PL- 02) (Grade III)

Required qualifications – Educational Qualifications Having passed six (06) subjects at the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination, with at least two (02) credit passes, in not more than two attempts. and

Professional qualifications –

Should possess a minimum competency at Level Two of the National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ), as determined by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission for the relevant post.

Age – Should not be less than 18 years and should not be more than 45 years.

Other – (i) Must be a Sri Lankan citizen. (ii) Must possess an excellent character.

(iii) Every applicant should have adequate physical fitness and mental soundness to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.

Salary – Salary Scale – Monthly Salary Scale applicable to Grades III, II and I – Rs. 41,800-10×490-10×540-10×590-12×630- Rs. 65,560/- (Salaries will be paid in accordance with Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025 from 01.01.2027. Until then, the prescribed salary shall be calculated in accordance with Schedule III of this Circular.)

Method of recruitment – Through a practical and structured interview

ii. For the post of Elephant Keeper

Educational Qualifications – Passed Grade 8

Professional Qualifications – Through a practical test

03. Nature of the Position and Structure of Duties (PL- 01) and (PL- 02)

i. This appointment is permanent and pensionable, subject to any policy decision that may be taken by the Government in the future in respect of pensions.

ii. You are required to contribute to the Widows’/Widowers’ and Orphans’ Pension Scheme. You shall pay the contributions in the manner prescribed by the Government from time to time.

iii. A probationary period of 03 years shall be served from the date of assumption of the appointment. The prescribed Efficiency Bar Examinations shall be passed as specified in the Scheme of Recruitment.

iv. In accordance with the provisions specified in Public Administration Circular No. 18/2020 dated 16.10.2020, proficiency in the other official language/languages prescribed shall be obtained.

v. It shall be subject to the Procedural Rules of the Public Service Commission, the Establishments Code of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, the Government Financial Regulations, other Government regulations/ circulars, instructions, and the amendments issued from time to time in respect thereof.

04. Documents to be submitted with applications

I. A certified copy of the birth certificate

II. Certified copy of National Identity Card/Valid Passport

III. Certified copies of educational certificates (G.C.E (O/L)/G.C.E. (A/L))

IV. Grama Niladhari Certificate (DS 04 format)

V. Applicants applying for the posts of Tractor Operator/Machine Operator (Backhoe)/Vehicle Assistant shall submit a certified copy of their driving licence.

05. Only applicants who possess the qualifications specified in this notice will be called for the structured interview, and applicants who pass the interview will be called for the relevant vocational tests. Applications from applicants who do not possess the qualifications required under this notice will be rejected.

06. All applicants shall be required to comply with the general rules and regulations set out in this notice.

07. Providing false information

I. Great care shall be taken to provide accurate information when filling out the application. If it is found that any candidate is ineligible to sit for this interview under the regulations applicable to this interview, his/her candidature may be cancelled at any stage, whether before, during or after the interview.

II. If any information provided by a candidate is subsequently found to be incorrect, or if it is revealed that he/she has deliberately concealed any matter, he/she will not be considered for any further appointment and may also be liable to have an appointment granted as a result of this examination cancelled or to be dismissed from the Public Service.

III. Applicants who have fulfilled the qualifications shall submit the application prepared according to the format given below, together with copies of the relevant certificates, clearly stating the post applied for on the top left-hand corner of the envelope containing the application.
